A beautiful monument to
the 90th Regiment PA Volunteers. How fitting that its foundation appears
to be one of the huge boulders that are found throughout the
Battlefield. It stands as a testimony to the massive struggle that took
place on these fields.
On this side of the 90th
Regiment PA Volunteer monument is a plaque noting that it was placed on
the Gettysburg battlefield by the Survivors Association in 1889.
Monument to the 13th
Vermont Infantry on Hancock Ave. in the center of the Battlefield.
Monument to PA Volunteers
who fought in the Valley of Death.
This has to be one of the
most incredible monuments on the Gettysburg battlefield. It's a monument
to the 26th North Carolina Regiment who fought their way across the
field of Pickett's Charge to within 10 paces of the Union cannon at the
Angle. They could hear the cannon crews yelling, "Pull!" and were
devastated by the blast.
This picture was taken at sundown only
days after the 145th anniversary of the battle. I've been to this spot
many times but never fail to be astounded by the sheer tenacity of these
men. Their actions on July 3, 1863 are simply incredulous.
