Spangler's Spring located on Culp's Hill. This spot and its water supply was alternately held by both armies. When Union troops were withdrawn to other parts of the battlefield for support Confederates claimed the position without firing a shot. When Union troops returned the Spring returned to their possession. Battlefield guides I've spoken to discount stories of men from both armies meeting here at night and fraternizing.
The sculpture at the base of the Virginia Memorial. This is a magnificent work of art and a beloved spot for visitors from the South. General Lee is positioned atop the monument riding Traveller. Virginia's sons are below in a fighting pose.
Longstreet's cannon pointing at the summit of Little Round Top clearly marked with a light winter's snow. Some parts of the battlefield can be more easily seen without the dense vegetation that covers it in the summer months. Chamberlain's position on Little Round Top is a fine example.
Winter on the field of Picketts Charge. The Virginia Memorial with Gen. Lee on top is the white speck in the distance in the middle of the trees. Its a long way to walk in the summer. Its even longer in the winter. But the walk was an eternity when it was first made. The snow will give you a feel for the distance these men had to cover under fire. I guarantee when you see it in person and check out the cannon at the Angle the thought of making that charge yourself will be incomprehensible.
Winter snow in the Valley of Death. The snow looks like powdered sugar on the rocks and huge boulders of Devils Den to the left and below. This should give you a feel for the distance between the face of Little Round Top and the Confederate sharpshooters who inhabited Devil's Den.
