| The Irish Brigades monument. No picture could do it justice. You have to
get right up next to it. Its as beautiful as it looks here. |
| Jennie Wade's grave in Evergreen Cemetery. The only civilian casualty of
the battle. She was killed in her home by a stray bullet while baking bread. |
| Here's a monument to the 20th Maine you're sure to miss unless you climb
Big Round Top. And I can tell you it's a climb. The 20th was here on the summit
of Big Round Top on the night of their action on Little Round Top just below.
That's the first morning sunlight coming over Big Round Top on the monument. |
| Union artillery position in National Cemetery. Ranger told the tour that
for every two cannon in the cemetery now there were probably six at the time
of the battle. |
| The Union view of Picketts Charge from the cannons at the Angle. It's nearly
impossible to imagine anyone crossing that field and walking towards these guns. If
you look very closely you'll spot the Virginia Memorial in the center of the trees
in the distance. Thats the monument with Lee and Traveller on top. Just a short
way out from that monument is the spot where Lee rode to greet his men as they
straggled back across the field after the charge. Now you can see and sense what
it took for those men to make it.
